Art Deco Modernist Table Lamp by Edouard Wilfred Buquet
Art Deco Modernist Table Lamp by Edouard Wilfred Buquet
Designed & patented in 1927,
The lamp was then produced by Buquet himself until the end of the 1930’s.
Lamp à balancier, Type A table lamp produced in Paris in the 1930’s.
We believe this example to be an early original from the 1930’s.
The base has a metal stamp showing the item was owned by Hawksley & Sons Ltd, 83 Wigmore St, London W1, a manufacturer of metal devices established in 1869.
In the 1930’s the company had two addresses, 357 Oxford St & 83 Wigmore St.
An Adjustable aluminium lampshade, tubular nickel plated metal arm, heavy counterbalance weight with a nickel plated upright mounted on a black lacquered wooden base.
The item is in good original condition with traces of use as to be expected.
The aluminium shade has marks & wear from use. The middle shaft and weighted counter balance has some dings in the metal. The metal parts of the lamp have accrued patina from age & use. Unfortunately the lamp is missing the original makers stamp positioned on the underside of the base. The original black lacquer on the base has some wear from age and use.
The item is fully functional, the counter balance adjusts and holds positions perfectly.
The lamp has recently been rewired from the base with 3 core black braided flex.
It takes a B22 bulb.
